Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a recoil starter, in which a compression spring section and a torsion spring section are formed in a unit so that a single friction spring can serve as the driving source for ratchet and also as return spring.
CONSTITUTION: When rope 5 is drawn out, reel 4 is turned. Here, friction spring 13 is fixed in its place since it is held tightly between stepped portion 3a of shaft 3 and friction plate 8. Further, since ratchet 10 is prevented from turning although it is forced to turn together with rotation of reel 4, it is pushed outwards of reel 4 until its projection 10b comes into engagement with starting wheel 1. When the rope is further drawn out, friction spring 13 begins to rotate against frictional force, thereby starting engine. Subsequently, when rope 5 is returned, ratchet 10 is held in its retracted position. In this state, torsion spring serves as return spring employed in conventional arrangements.
