Abstract
PURPOSE: To maintain the quality of a desired glass product and to reduce the neccessary fuel by charging scrap glass and principal glass raw materials into a melting furnace from separate charge inlets; gasification-removing org. matter adhered to the scrap glass; and melting them.
CONSTITUTION: Fine grain mixt. 8 of principal glass raw materials and crushed scrap glass or cut scrap glass fiber 9 as recovered scrap glass are charged into tank furnace 1 from one side and the other side of furnace end 6, respectively. At this time, by regulating the air to fuel ratio of burner 5' near end 6 so that air becomes slightly excess, the vicinity of the recovered scrap glass charging part is always maintained in an oxidizing atmosphere. The contents of the scrap glass and scrap glass fiver in the total glass materials are below 50% and below 20%, respectively. Scrap glass unmelted part 10 and principal raw material unmelted part 11 are formed, and melting is finished on this side of central weir 12 below the melted base material level. The melted glass base material is fed to a deforming clarification zone over the upper edge of weir 12, and the clarified material is discharged 7 through the lower part of upper weir 13 and supplied to a molding zone.
