Abstract

PURPOSE: To make automatic and proper the measurement of surrouding stress cracking of a thermoplastic resin by arranging two kinds of electrodes at a spacing on an insulator.
CONSTITUTION: Two kinds of electrodes 7 and 8 made of conductive metal are arranged in combination in the form of a comb under a non-contact condition upon an insulating plate 6 which is made of such a refractory material as is free from the surrounding stress cracking. This device is placed in the dish 4 of an oven and is charged with an aqueous solution 2 of a surface reacting agent. A container 1 of a termoplastic resin, which has its mouth portion sealed with a molten resin 3, is placed in the dish 4. The measurement in the oven is advanced under the condition having a suitable voltage applied between the electrodes 6 and 7. If a cracking is generated in the container 1, the aqueous solution 2 leaks out. This solution reaches as far as the bottom of the container 1 so that even one portion connects the electrodes on the side of the insulating plate 6. Then, a current flows between the electrodes to operate a relay through a lead wire 9 so that the counter is stopped.
