Abstract

PURPOSE: To make the differences in the densities and thicknesses of materials slight by forming the cylindrical cavities, sprues, cross gates and ingates to be cast to the right and left casting molds of split patterns in such a manner that the centerlines of the cavities intersect orthogonally to the centerlines of the sprues and mating both casting molds.
CONSTITUTION: The cavities 6, sprues 7, cross gate 8 and ingates 9 of the cylinder liners 2 having drafts of nearly 1/200 to 1/220 in both outside and inside diameters from the parting line 1 toward the outside end part 5 are molded in the right and left casting molds 3, 4 of split patterns in such a manner that the centerlines of the cavities 6 intersect orthogonally to the centerlines of the sprues 7. Next, both casting molds are mated at the parting line 1, after which molten metal is poured from the sprues 7 in the circumferential direction of the cavities. This method prevents the differences in the densities of both end materials of the castings occuring in the drafts of casting, the occurrence of shrinkage cavities and inclusions and improves casting yield.
