Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a converter, which prevents various troubles from being generated thereby to maintain the most proper operations, by providing two independent gas passages in a juxtaposed or dual condition and by charging the passages with oxidizing and reducing catalysts in a preset heatable manner.
CONSTITUTION: A cylindrical catalyst tube 14 having its both ends opened is inserted into a catalyst tube 15 having a larger diameter thereby to provide a dual tube construction. The smaller catalyst tube has its passage C charged with a first NO2 reducing catalyst 16. The other passage D is charged at its upstream portion with an NH3 oxidizing catalyst 16 and at its downstream portion with a second NO2 reducing catalyst 18 substantially at the same position as the first-named reducing catalyst 16. A first heater 20 is mounted on the outer circumference of the charging portion of the catalyst 17, and a second heater 20 is mounted on the outer circumference of the charging portion of the second catalysts 16 and 18. The two heaters 20 are connected through temperature controllers 21 and 22 with a power source.
