Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare an elastic sealant of outstanding durability and weatherability, not requiring fugitive substances such as water, organic solvents, etc., by incorporating a catalyst and a filler in two kinds of specific acrylic low molecular weight copolymers.

CONSTITUTION: In an acrylic low molecular weight copolymer (A) having an average of 1.7W10 active functional groups, in one molecule, reactive to another acrylic low molecular weight copolymer (B), is incorporated 0.05W50 wt.% of the copolymer (B) having an average of 1.7W10 active functional groups, in one molecule, reactive to the copolymer (A). The resulting composition is blended with 30W200 parts by wt. of a filler, and 0.01W5 parts by wt. of a catalyst, both based on 100 parts by wt. of the copolymer (A). The copolymer (A) can be prepared by copolymerization, in the presence of an initiator and a chain transfer agent, between (a) 1 mol of an unsaturated monomer having one functional group of high cemical reactivity such as hydroxyl, amino group, etc., and (b) 5W500 moles of another unsaturated monomer of formula (R₁ is H or methyl; R₂ is 2W14C alkyl).
