Abstract
PURPOSE:To splice optical fibers easily and accurately without damaging or contaminating terminals, by aligning the terminals of optical fiber butt to butt through an alignment table or moving table mechanism, and positioning through optical system position detecting mechanism. CONSTITUTION:Optical fibers 25A, 25B are inserted and clamped into V-grooves 9a, 9b in upper moving table plates 8a, 8b of moving table mechanisms 3A, 3B, and the terminals of said optical fibers 26a, 26b are opposedly set into V-grooves 5a, 5b in an alignment table 2. Next, by means of pushers 11a, 11b, the upper moving table plates 8a, 8b are moved in the directions of both sides of the alignment table 2, and the positions of optical fibers 26a, 26b are adjusted, and this state is confirmed through optical system position detecting mechanisms 4A, 4B. This confirmation completes with lighting of indicators 24a, 24b. Thus, butt-to-butt alignment of optical fiber terminals and positioning may be easily and accurately done without causing damaging or contamination.
