Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain titled coating compsn. which does not contain components capable of extraction into an alkaline aq. phase, by a method wherein a reaction product of an epoxide with an amine is thoroughly mixed and contacted with an aq. washing liquid to separate an aq. phase and an org. phase and the compsn. is obtd. from the org. phase.
CONSTITUTION: A cation type electrodeposition coating compsn. consisting essentially of a cationic resin having an amine equivalent of 370W4,000 obtd. from a reaction product of an epoxide with an amine is provide. The cationic resin does not substantially contain components which can be extracted into an aq. phase having a pH of not lower than 8.5. Examples of the cation resins used are those obtd. from the reaction of a polyepoxide, derived from 2,2-bis(4'-hydroxyphenyl) propane and epichlorohydrin, with at least one amine contg. at least one primary amino group and/or secondary amino group in the molecule.
