Abstract

PURPOSE: To check double feed of sheets in a device such as a bank note dispenser, by pivoting either of a apir of rollers for holding paper to be caried between them, movable orthogonal to the carrying direction and detecting displacement of light emitted from a light source and reflected by the roller.
CONSTITUTION: A sheet of paper A is carried being held between a roller 13 pivoted at a fixed position and a roller 14 pivoted movably orthogonal to the carrying direction. A light beam X emitted from a light source 15 through a slitted plate 17 is reflected by the roller 14 or another cylindrical unit turning together with the roller 14 and received by a phototube 16. When paper A is not inserted between both rolers 13, 14, the reflected beam is received by the tube 16a, but the beam is displaced and received by the tube 16b when the paper A is inserted and the roller 14 is shifted. If two sheets of paper A are inserted, the roller 14 is shifted further and the reflected beam is received by the tube 16c to detect the double feed.
