When binding a book, a collating machine is used to select one sheet from multiple types of paper and stack them.
This collating machine will be explained based on FIGS. 1 and 2. The collating machine main body 1 is provided with a horizontal rack plate 3 that is horizontally suspended between support legs 2a and 2b at both ends. A plurality of mounting tables 4a, 4b, . . . on which various types of paper are placed are attached, and in front of each mounting table 4a, 4b, paper clamping tools 5a, 5b, . Placing tables 4a, 4b... and clamping tool 5
A paper receiving plate 6 for receiving the paper held by the clamping tools 5a, 5b, . A conveyor device 7 is provided below this paper receiving plate 6, and a pressing rod 8 provided on the conveyor device 7 is inserted into the hole 6 of the paper receiving plate 6.
By protruding from a, when the conveyor device 7 is moved intermittently, the paper on the paper receiving plate 6 is intermittently conveyed from the support leg 2b to the support leg 2a side.

The above-mentioned clamping tools 5a, 5b... are the mounting tables 4a, 4b.
Papers are sucked and held one by one using suction cups 9, etc. installed on or near the mounting tables 4a, 4b, etc., but sometimes two or more sheets are held at a time, or they are not held at all. This may result in missing pages or misaligned pages.
Therefore, a mechanical detector is attached to the clamping tool to detect whether the thickness of the paper is normal or not when the paper is clamped. The conventional clamping tool will be explained below based on Fig. 3. .

As shown in FIG. 3, a fixed clamping piece 11 is fixed to the tip of the clamping tool 10 whose end is fixed to the rotating shaft, and the fixed clamping piece 11 is movable so that it can freely approach and separate from the fixed clamping piece 11 to clamp and separate the paper. A clamping piece 12 is provided, and the movable clamping piece 12 is connected to a cylinder 13 provided on the side of the clamping tool 10, and its movement is controlled by the cylinder 13. The L-shaped lever 14 that transmits the amount of displacement of the movable clamping piece 12 has a fulcrum of a bent portion rotatably supported by the fixed clamping piece 11, and a force point at one end is connected to the movable clamping piece 12.
The point of action at the other end is in contact with the detector 15. The detector 15 is provided with an L-shaped detection lever 16 which is fixed to the clamping tool 10 and is swingable, and two detection pieces 17a and 17b are installed to sandwich the tip of the detection lever 16. This detection lever 16 is in contact with an adjustment screw 18 screwed onto the other end of the lever 14, so if the adjustment screw 18 is properly adjusted in advance depending on the paper thickness, when two or more sheets of paper are clamped, Based on the fact that the detection lever 16 comes into contact with the detection piece 17a and does not separate from the detection piece 17b unless any paper is clamped,
The contact/separation is detected as an electrical signal, and by distinguishing the signals, defective paper clamping is detected.

In the above-mentioned clamping tool 10, the adjustment screw 18 must be adjusted every time the paper thickness changes, and the lever 14 amplifies the detection length by about 15 times, so adjustment is difficult and requires skill. There was a problem.

On the other hand, as means for detecting paper thickness, there is a method that electrically detects the separation distance between rollers that hold the paper, and detects the paper thickness using the detection signal. This means is highly accurate as long as there is no deviation between detection distances, and it is also easy to adjust according to the paper thickness.

As shown in FIG. 2, the clamping tool 5a is first formed by connecting a pair of clamping pieces 20a and 20b rotatably via a pin in the middle, and one clamping piece (fixed clamping piece) 20a. The ends of the rods are bent into an L-shape and extended, and the ends of the extending rods are connected to the paper mounting tables 4a, 4.

A pressing mechanism 22 whose movement is controlled by a cylinder 21 fixed to the extending rod is connected to the end of the other clamping piece (movable clamping piece) 20b. This pressing mechanism 22 includes a first rod 23 fixed to the cylinder 21 via a pin, and a movable holding piece 20b.
The second rod 24 is connected to the first rod 23 and the second rod 24 through a pin, and the elastic body 25 is provided between the first rod 23 and the second rod 24 to separate them.
When the first rod 23 is pressed by the cylinder 21, the distance between the fixed clamping piece 20a and the movable clamping piece 20b is maintained by the elastic body 25 to approximately the thickness of the paper clamped therebetween.

Therefore, when the clamping tool 5a is rotated by the rotating shaft, the paper sucked by the suction cup 9 from the mounting table 4a is transferred to the clamping pieces 20a, 20 as described above.
The paper is clamped by b and discharged onto the paper receiving plate 6.

A detected object 26 is fixed to the second rod 25, and a detector 27 facing the detected object 26 in the length direction of the second rod 24 is fixed to the clamp 5a. Reference numeral 27 emits a length signal corresponding to the distance to the detected object 26.
Therefore, when the movable clamping piece 20b is operated to clamp the paper with the fixed clamping piece 20a, the detector 27 emits a length signal corresponding to the paper thickness, so that the paper thickness can be detected.

Note that in the above embodiment, the detection operation was performed without setting the paper thickness at all, but if the paper thickness has already changed, the paper thickness is set and this set value is fixed as stored data. Alternatively, the set value may be updated with stored data only once for the first time, and sequentially using detected values from the second time onward. Furthermore, in the above description, the paper may be paper without a crease, paper folded once, paper folded multiple times, paper made of multiple sheets stacked on top of each other, or the like.

As described above, in this invention, a pair of clamping pieces that clamp paper on a paper table of a collating machine at their tips are rotatably connected via a pin in the middle, and the end of one clamping piece is connected rotatably through a pin. is bent into an L-shape and extended, the end of the extending rod is fixed to the rotating shaft of the paper mounting table in the parallel direction, and the end of the other clamping piece is attached along the extending rod. One end of the rod is rotatably connected via a pin,
One end of a cylinder fixed to the extending rod is rotatably connected to the other end of the rod via a pin, and the object to be detected is provided on one of the extending rod and the rod, and the object to be detected is provided on the other. A detector is provided that faces the object to be detected in the length direction of the rod and detects the distance between the object and the rod, and a detection signal from this detector is used to determine whether the thickness of the paper held by the holding pieces is good or not. Since the structure includes a discriminator for discriminating and electrically detects the interval between paper clamps to determine whether the paper clamps are good or bad, it is possible to easily respond to changes in paper thickness, as in the past.

In addition, a four-bar linkage mechanism is constructed with extending rods, rods, cylinders, etc., and the thickness of the paper is measured by the lengthwise movement of the extending rods and rods that are approximately parallel to each other. , and the amount of conversion is detected electrically, that is, the amount of change in the vertical direction in Figure 2 is detected, so it is not affected by the horizontal vibration of the collating machine.
High accuracy.
