Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the deposition of the magnetic material of fine particles, enhance the removal efficiency of magnetic material, decrease the coefficient of thermal expansion of silica sand and improve deflective strength by air-screening the silica sand prior to magnetic separation thereby removing fine particles.
CONSTITUTION: Prior to magnetic separation, silica sand is air-screened to remove the particles of the specified sizes or less contained in the silica sand. Next, this silica sand is passed in a high magnetic field to remove the magnetic components having relatively high coefficient of thermal expansion such as silicic acid anhydride, biotite and magnetite contained in the silica sand. The similar effect is also provided even with the artificial silica sand which has been artificially ground and having been screened.
