Abstract
PURPOSE: To achieve less warm-up time, less electric power, simpler construction and lower cost by forming the thin-film-form resistance heating element layer having self-temperature control characteristic along the outside circumference of the cylindrical substrate of a heating roller.
CONSTITUTION: The roller body 45 of a heating roller 27 comprises forming a heat- insulating layer 48, insulating layer 49, resistance heating element layer 50 and protecting film 51 subsequently on the outside circumference of an iron core made of iron as a cylindrical body. Power feed parts 55, 55 are provided to both ends of the resistance heating element layer 50. The resistance heating element layer 50 is composed of the resistance heating element having PTC characteristics (positive resistance temperature characteristics). Since the resistance heating element layer 50 has self-temperature-control characteristic, the specified temperature may be obtained even without provision of any specific temperature control means. The local temperature difference owing to the difference in paper size is automatically corrected as shown by the broken line (a). Further, the warm-up time is reduced and the simpler construction, less power and lower cost may be achieved.
