Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve performance of an internal combustion engine and to reduce the noise as well as the amount of noxious components contained in the exhaust gas, by processing information afforded from the internal combustion engine itself and its power transmission system in an electric logical operation unit and controlling the ratio of speed reduction in the power transmission system on the basis of the logical operation. CONSTITUTION:Driving force of internal combustion engine 29 is transmitted to load 30 via torque converter 20 and planetary gear type power transmission unit 19. The first control unit group consisting of fuel control means 26, ignition timing controlling means 27 and exhaust-gas recirculation controlling means 28 and the second control unit group consisting of servomotor 16 and valves 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15 are both connected to micro-processor 24. On the other hand, the first parameter like the engine speed and the second partameter like the vehicle speed are afforded into the micro-processor 24, and on the basis of the result of operation in processor 24, the ratio of speed reduction in planetary gear type power transmission unit 19 is determined to a proper value for shifting the reduction gears.
