Abstract

PURPOSE: To transalkylate an alkyl aromatic hydrocarbon in high activity and selectivity with a long catalyst life, in the high-temperature vapor phase, in the presence of a gas containing hydrogen, and a catalyst composed of mordenite and rhenium.
CONSTITUTION: An alkyl aromatic hydrocarbon is transalkylated in the high-temperature vapor phase, in the presence of a hydrogen-containing gas and a catalyst composed of mordenite and rhenium. The mordenite is a crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite having substantially a mordenite structure, and rhenium may be in a form selected from an element, oxide, sulfide or selenide, preferably in an amount of 0.001W1.0wt% calculated as an element ary metal, in the catalyst, to give a high transalkylation activity and a long catalyst life with little by-products, in high selectivity.
