Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain aromatic hydrocarbons such as BTX, etc., in high selestivity, by the selective dealkylation of a benzene compound despecially an having ethyl group under mild conditions in the presence of an H-type zeolite catalyst having a specific ailica/alumina molar ratio.
CONSTITUTION: Aromatic hydrocarbons valuable as chemical raw materials, e.g. benzene, toluene and xylene (BTX) are prepared by the gas-phase dealkylation of an aromatic hydrocarbon having one or more ≥2C alkyl groups, such as ethyltoluene, etc. at 250W550°C and 2W20kg/cm2G, in the presence of 0.1W20mol, based on 1mol of the aromatic hydrocarbon, of H2 and an H-type crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite catalyst having a silica/alumina molar ratio of ≥10, especially ≥15. The zeolite catalyst is preferably heat-treated at 200W600°C for 1W5hr in air or N2 atmosphere before use.
