Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a resin for laminated sheets having excellent machinability, chemical resistance and curability, economically, by adding a liquid polybutadiene to a phenol compound, eliminating a part of the unreacted phenol, and then reacting the product with formaldehyde.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A liquid polybutadiene having a number average molecular weight of 400W5,000 (pref. 600W2,000) is reacted with (B) 50W1,000 (pref. 30W400) wt%, based on (A), of a phenol compound, wherein a molecule of (B) is added to 3W8 butadiene monomer units in a molecule of (A), in the presence of an acid catalyst (e.g. sulfuric acid). A part of the unreacted phenol is preferably eliminated by distillation or by using a polar solvent (e.g. water). The product is reacted with (C) formaldehyde [preferably 0.6W3mol on the basis of 1mol of (B)] in the presence of a basic catalyst (e.g. ammonia).
