Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the captioned emulsion of superior keeping stability by using the specific mixed silver halide crystals composed of silver iodide polyhedral crystals and the silver halide crystals formed thereon through epitaxial bonding. CONSTITUTION:The silver iodide polyhedral crystals composed primarily of beta- phase silver iodide of truncated double pyramid type crystal type are used as crystal base and the crystals of silver bromide (iodide) are epitaxially bonded by a simultaneous mixing method of the solution of, for example, water soluble bromide (further this may contain water-soluble iodide) and silver salt solution, whereby the mixed silver halide in which epitaxial silver halide does not exist in more than half of the polyhedral crystal surfaces and nevertheless the amount of epitaxial silver halide is 75mol% or less of the entire amount is formed. Thence, the above- mentioned mixed silver halide is dispersed into hydrophilic colloid (gelatine, polysaccharide, etc.) to be used as a binder, and further photograhic additives are added to prepare the silver halide photograhic emulsion.
