Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a novel composite acrylic fiber having a softness like cotton and a dry hand, by wet composite spinning of two solutions of acrylonitrile polymers having different heat shrinkages.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A solution of (a) a polymer consisting of 75wt% or more acrylonitrile and a copolymerizable monomer, e.g. vinyl acetate, and (B) a solution of (b) a polymer having a heat shrinkage different from the polymer (a) with a comonomer content 1wt% or more different from that in the polymer (a), are wet spun at a ratio between the spinning draft ratio and the maximum one of 0.5W 0.9 to give preferably a side-by-side acrylic fiber having the surface covered with a plurality of folds of average width 0.1W5μ formed in the fiber axis direction, two or more pores having a major axis ≥2μ in the cross section and 30W150 crimps per 25mm of the fiber length.
