Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate the contamination for the detection and thus ensure the accurate measurement at all times, by providing the air layer in front of the plastic scintillator to exhaust the contaminated air.
CONSTITUTION: The clean air is led in from outside via pump 9 and ventilation tube 10 each, and thus clean air layer 11 is formed between the front of plastic scintillator 4 and incident window film 8. As a result, the greater part of the radioactive gas can be exhausted outside via the clean air although part of the radioactive gas within measurement container 2 may transmits through film 8. Accordingly, almost no radioactive gas enters directly scintillator 4 to give contamination there, and thus the detection error can be reduced. The film through which the radiation of plastics, beryllium or the like can pass easily is used for film 8. At the same time, the effect of heat exchange is obtained by exhausting the air via the pump. As a result, the sudden change of the temperature can be avoided for the detector main body, thus keeping the detector main body at a constant temperature.
