Abstract

PURPOSE: To raise the efficiency for removing phosphorus contained in waste water by a process in which an adsorbent used for the adsorption of phosphorus present in the waste water is calcined in a specific temperature range, then an adsorbent having a higher adsorptivity than that of the calcined adsorbent is mixed with the calcined adsorbent in a specific supplementing ratio, and then the mixed adsorbent is brought into contact with waste water repeatedly.
CONSTITUTION: Waste water and an adsorbent are brought into contact with each other continuously by a solid-liquid contacting apparatus so that phosphorus compounds present in waste water are adsorbed on the adsorbent. Then adsorbent on which a certain amount of phosphorus compounds are adsorbed is separated by sedimentation, dried, and then calcined at 350W700°C. Then, a magnesia adsorbent having a higher adsorptivity than that of the calcined adsorbent is added to the calcined adsorbent in proportion of 0.5W20wt% on the basis of the total amount of the adsorbents and again brought into contact with the phosphorus-containing waste water. In this way, the adsorbent is repeatedly and effectively used.
