Abstract

PURPOSE: To identify the properties of degenerated kerosene easily in any stage of deterioration, by affixing a substance which presents color when contacting with degenerated components in a kerosene or foreign matter mixed therein, to powdery or granular colorless or pale-color inorganic matter.
CONSTITUTION: As a substance which presents color when contacting with degenerated components in a kerosene, a coumpound selected from titanium chloride, a mixture of potassium ferrocyanide and FeCl3, copper hexacyanoferrate, KBr, and NaBr is affixed to an inoganic matter, such as Al2O3 and SiO2 to obtain a powdery or granular substance 2, which is put in, for example, a transparent glass tube 1, which is plugged with absorbent cotton stoppers 3, 3. This tube is set up in a kerosene, and the kerosene is sucked up by capillarity. Then a colored band 4 varying depending on the stage of degeneration appears, such as (a) where the degenerated components contain much tar, (b) where only peroxide is contained, (c) where peroxide and acidic components are contained, and (d) where acidic components and resin colored components are found. Thus, the properties may be identified easily.
