Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable even an amateur to easily identify the presence or absence or degree of degeneration of properties of kerosene, by carrying KI or NaI on a powdery or granular carrier insoluble in kerosene, causing this carrier to contact with the kerosene, and detecting presence or absence of colorationof measuring the degree of coloration.
CONSTITUTION: KI or NaI is carried on a powdery or granular carrier insoluble in kerosene, such as Al2O3, SiO2, and MgO. Or, starch may be carried on the carrier. Per 1g of carrier, KI or NaI should be carried by 0.005W0.2g, and starch by 1/50W 1 of KI or NaI in ratio by weight. The carrier 2 carrying such reagent is put in a glass tube 1, of which both ends are plugged with cotton stoppers 3, 3. This tube is set up in a kerosene to suck up the kerosene by capillarity. The length of colored part 4 of the carrier 2 is indicated depending on the degree of degeneration, such as (a) where tar content is larger, (b) where only peroxide is contained, (c) where peroxide and acid value are detected, and (d) where peroxide, acid value, and resinlike colored matter are detected. Thus, the properties may be identified easily.
