Abstract
PURPOSE: To decrease the residual thickness of a score without producing any cracking in the bottom of the score and improve can-opening characteristic by working the score to the can cover then electrochemically or chemically dissolving the score.
CONSTITUTION: Scoring is applied to a steel sheet for can cover by using suitable tools 16, 17. Thence, with the cover 20 as anode, the score part 10 is dissolved electrochemically in an electrolyte solution 40 such as ferric chloride or ferric sulfate. Or the solution having metal dissolving capacity is contacted with the score part 10 to dissolve the score part 10. This method comprises using inexpensive materials such as tin plates and making the residual thickness of the score thinner within the range of posing no proglems in terms of can strength and yields the can-opening force which compares sufficiently with that of aluminum material.
