Abstract
PURPOSE:To achieve the reduction of connecting time and the improvement in reliability by applying metal plating on which solder is easy to deposit on an optical- fiber connecting metallic G-groove base plate and optical keep plates and fixing optical fibers by means of solder. CONSTITUTION:The top surface of a metallic V-groove base plate 4 and the bottom surface of metallic keep plates 5 are coated with vapor-deposition film of gold, whereby the bonding of the base plate 4 and keep plates 5 for the purpose of fixing optical fibers 1 to the base plate 4 may be accomplished by soldering. The optical fibers 1 are butted to each other from both and are placed on the V-groove engraved at the center of the base plate 4 so as to obviate the production of any geometrical imperfection at the connection point of the optical fibers 1, after which the keep plates 5 are put on from above and solder is flowed into the clearance between the vapor-deposition films 6 having been evaporated on the base plate 4 and keep plates 5, whereby the base plate 4 and keep plates 5 are bonded and fixed. In this way, the connection time may be shortened and the reliability of connection enhanced.
