Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the SN ratio with limitting the effect of noise caused of reflected light by holding the peak value of differential signal between an input pulse signal of the reflected laser beam with a fixed pulse width and a delayed signal thereof.
CONSTITUTION: As soon as the reflected laser beam is irradiated on a photodiode 1, current is generated according to the laser beam. Voltage corresponding to the laser beam generated across a resister 2 is directly applied to the positive input end of a subtractor 8 while to the negative input end thereof through a pulse delay line 7. The subtractor 8 forms the differential signal between the output of the photo diode 1 and the delayed output via the delay line 7. The differential signal is applied to the peak hold circuit 9 to hold the peak value of the differential signal whereby the peak value is detected. Thus, the utilization of the pulse delay line 7 allows the reflected laser beam to be separated from the noise reflected light thereby improving SN ratio.
