Abstract

PURPOSE:To measure the temperature of surface of the object in the furnace continuously and accurately by providing a screening plate as a reference noise source, which is opposed to the surface of the object, so as to prevent radiant noise from advancing round to a radiation thermometer, and subjecting to subtraction such a component of an indication value on the thermometer that corresponds to noise transmitted thereto via the reference noise source. CONSTITUTION:The temperature of surface of a slab 1 which is moved in the furnace 3 to be heated with radiant heat from the inner surface of the furnace 3 is measured with a radiation thermometer 4 which is passed through the central portion of a screening plate 2 disposed close and in opposition to the surface of the slab 1. In this structure, radiant noise diffuse-reflected on the surface of the slab 1 can be prevented from advancing round to the thermometer 4. Such a component of an indication value on the thermometer 4 that corresponds to reference noise transmitted thereto via a thermocouple 5 partially buried in the screening plate 2 is subtracted in an arithmetic circuit 8 to correct the indication value. Accordingly, the temperature of the surface of a slab which is continuously moved can be measured accurately.
