Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the reliability of the fault pickup of an ultraviolet ray discharge tube by opening a shutter and reclosing the shutter after allowing the ultraviolet ray discharge tube to discharge and judging whether the discharge of the ultraviolet ray discharge tube has ceased or not within a fixed time from this point.
CONSTITUTION: This is the method of picking up the fault of an ultrasonic discharge tube 1 which discharges upon receipt of flame and ultraviolet rays by using a shutter 3 for preventing the entry of the ultraviolet rays emitted from the flame 2, wherein while no current 6 is flowed to the coil 4 of an electromagnet, the shutter 3 is held open but when the current 6 is interrupted, the shutter 3 closes to cut off the incident light to the discharge tube 1. The fault is picked up by judging whether the discharge of the discharge tube 1 has ceased or not within the fixed time specified in a timer 11 from the point when said shutter 3 was closed.
