Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the dwelling time in a dangerous temperature region and make grinder cracks obsolete by water-guenching the captioned slab having been continuously cast from the red heat state after the completion of casting down to the specific temperature then performing surface mending by a grinder at the limited temperature.
CONSTITUTION: The captioned slab which has been continuously cast is water- quenched from the temperature around 700°C after the completion of the casting down to the temperature of 450°C or less. Thence, this slab is subjected to surface mending by a grinder in the hot state of 450W100°C. According to this method, 475°C brittleness may be avoided and nevertheless the considerable cost reduction as compared to conventional ingot making methods may be achieved.
