Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to record a code pattern by a fluorescent substance colorless or in the same color as that of a recording medium excited by irradiation with ultraviolet rays, and then to read the pattern by a simple mechanism which uses an ultraviolet light source.
CONSTITUTION: On form 3, matrix pattern 1 and code pattern 2 are drawn. Code pattern 2 is recorded by a fluorescent substance colorless or in the same color as the base color of form 3 waveform-converted into red or infrared light by irradiation with ultraviolet rays. When form 3 is fed between photoelectric converter 8 and ultraviolet fluoresent lamp 12, code pattern 2 is irradiated with ultraviolet rays 14 to emit fluorescent light 15 of red or infrared rays. Then when semitransparent electrode 9a of photoelectric converter 8 detects fluorescent light 15, a voltage is developed between electrode 9a and electrode 9b on the opposite surface and photoelectrically converted, so that code pattern 2 can be read by it.
