Abstract

PURPOSE: To recover aluminum as a chloride, by a method wherein anion exchange films and monovalent anion selectively permeable exchange membranes are alternately arranged between an anode and a cathod and an inorganic mixed acid containing aluminum is electrodialyzed.
CONSTITUTION: Anion exchange membranes formed by introducing a quaternary amine group, etc. to a styrene-butadiene copolymer, etc. and membranes for selectively permeating monovalent anions of a vinylpyridine-epoxy compound membrane, etc. are alternately disposed between an anode and a cathode, and a monovalent anion concentrating chamber and a polyvalent anion concentrating chamber partitioned by means of these both membranes are constituted. A mixed acid containing aluminum ions is introduced to the monovalent anion concentrating chamber, and a chloride, which reacts with polyvalent anions and does not form an insoluble salt, to the polyvalent anion concentrating chamber. Thus, only a chloride of aluminum can be recovered from the mixed acid containing aluminum.
