Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the strength of each gasket of an electrodialytic cell without deteriorating the photographic characteristics of the resulting regenerated soln. by using the gasket of ethylene-propylene rubberlike copolymer when a waste developer or a waste fixing soln. is regenerated by ion exchange membrane method electrodialysis.
CONSTITUTION: When a waste developer or a waste fixing soln. is regenerated using an ion exchange electrodialytic cell provided with a plurality of desalting chambers and concentrating chambers alternately partitioned with anion and cation exchange membranes, each gasket placed between the membranes is made of ethylene-propylene type rubberlike copolymer such as ethylene-propylene copolymer or ethylene-propylene-diene copolymer. The rubber has hardness fit for sealing the membranes to prevent leak of the soln. Thus, long-term operation of the cell is enabled without deterioration of the photographic characteristics of the resulting regenerated soln. due to the gasket and corrosion of the gasket due to the processing soln.
