Abstract

PURPOSE:To heighten sensitivity in a system wherein transmitted waves are not modulated, by using the transmitted waves as a station-emitted signal and performing intermediate frequency amplification. CONSTITUTION:When a microwave oscillator 1 oscillates at frequency of fo, transmitted waves fo are emitted through an isolator 2 or the like. At that time, reflected waves due to the mismatching operation of a matching element are applied as a station-emitted signal fo to a microwave mixer 8. The received waves return with a Dopper shift fd from the transmitted waves. The received waves are modulated by a modulator 7 driven at frequency of fm. The modulated waves are applied to a microwave mixer 8 so that the wave are mixed with the station-emitted signal fo. Only signals fm+fd, fm-fd are picked out of the outputs of the mixer 8 and conducted through a band-pass filter 9 etc. and then mixer by another mixer 11 with a signal fm from a mosulating oscillator 14. The mixed signals are passed through an amplifier 12 and detected by a detector 13 to determine the Doppler shift fd. Sensitivity is thus heightend without modulating the transmitted waves.
