Abstract

PURPOSE: A sucrose content improver for a sugar cane, comprising a compound, e.g. a substituted disphenyl ether useful as a herbicide, as an active constituent.
CONSTITUTION: A sucrose content improver comprising a compound of the formula [X is CF3 or halogen; Y is H or halogen; Z is CH or N; R is COOR1 (R1 is alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, metal atom, dialkylamino group, etc.); COSR2 (R2 is alkyl group or CH2OH)] as an active constituent. The compound is believed to inhibit the sugar metabolism in a sugar cane remarkably and the energy conversion of reducing sugar. The use of the improver increases the yield of sucrose per unit area. Preferably, the application is carried out 3W7 weeks before the scheduled harvesting data in an amount of 0.01W0.2kg/hectare, calculated as the active constituent.
