Abstract
PURPOSE: To protect mechanical seal against too eary wear and other troubles, by forming rib-shaped projections on the inner wall of a seal box radially around a shaft in the manner that they extend from the upper end of the seal box nearly to the lower end, and thereby removing air introduced into the seal box to the outside.
CONSTITUTION: Rib-shaped projections 11 are formed on the inner wall of seal box 10 radially around shaft 8 in the manner that they extend from the upper end of seal box 10 nearly to the lower end. By the function of these projections 11, water having a high specific weight is agitated without being scattered to the outside from a lower portion of seal box 10 and mixed sufficiently with air introduced into box 10. Then, water is discharged into a container together with air by the function of disk friction of shroud at the back of impeller 3. With such a simple arrangement, water lubrication to the sliding surfaces of mechanical seal 9 is accomplished satisfactorily, and if air is introduced into seal box 10, it can be easily discharged to the outside, so that protection against wear of mechanical seal 9 and deterioration in the performance of pump can be achieved effectively.
