Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent vortex flows and protect a double-flow nozzle box from erosion due to solid particles, by providing annular steps on a turbine rotor in face of the inside surface of the nozzle box.
CONSTITUTION: When a rotor 2 is rotated, vortex flows 12a, 12b are caused by the rotation of discs 2a, 2b in leaking steam containing solid particles which flow down in an opening 9. Other vortex flows 13a, 13b, the revolving direction of which are shown by opposite dotted lines in the drawing, are caused in a chest opening 9a by the said vortex flows 12a, 12b through a minimum gap 18. Since slopes 16a, 16b are provided on the annular recess 16 of the turbine rotor 2, centrifugal forces are caused along the slopes by the rotation of the rotor 2 so that other vortex flows 17a, 17b whose revolving directions are opposite to those of the said vortex flows 13a, 13b and shown by other dotted lines in the drawing are produced. As a result, the vortex flows 13a, 13b and the other vortex flows 17a, 17b are cancelled by each other.
