Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce slap noises without changing the fitting clearance between piston and cylinder liner, by interposing dampers between the inner wall surface of a liner inserting bore formed in cylinder block and the outer wall surface of cylinder liner. CONSTITUTION:A liner inserting bore 3 is formed in cylinder block 2 having water jacket 1 formed therein. The first elliptic liner 4 serving as damper is press-fitted into the liner inserting bore 3, and then the second elliptic liner 5 also serving as damper is similarly press-fitted into the first elliptic liner 4. Further, a conventional cylinder liner 6 is press fitted into the second elliptic liner 5. With such an arrangement, impulsive energy applied to cylinder liner 6 by piston is reduced while it is transmitted to cylinder block 2 via the second and the first elliptic liners 5, 4, so that piston slapping noises emitted from cylinder block 2 can be lowered.
