Abstract

PURPOSE: To utilize the visible lights of solar energy effectively and to improve thermal efficiency by a method wherein the peripheral wall of a heat collector elemet is consisted of an upper wall portion made of a transparent material and a lower wall portion made of an opaque material.
CONSTITUTION: A solar water heater comprises a box 1 in which are contained cylindrical heat collector elements 2 each having a hollow portion 5 surrounded by a peripheral wall. The peripheral wall of the element 2 consists of an upper wall portion 3 made of a transparent material and a lower wall portion 4 made of an opaque material, the portions 3 and 4 being jointed together at flange portions 3a, 4a. Visible rays transmit through the upper wall portions 3 as shown by arrow A to be absorbed in water in the hollow portions 5, to heat the water. On the other hand, a quasi-infrared radiation of relatively long wave length is absorbed by the surfaces (a) of the upper wall portions 3 as indicated by arrow B, and is transmitted through the inside surfaces (b) by heat conduction to act to heat the water.
