Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve durability by preventing the abrasion of a core, by forming an Ni-W alloy plating layer, in which nonmagnetic material particles as hard as or harder than a magnetic tape are dispersed, on the surface of a magnetic head meeting the tape. CONSTITUTION:On the surface of a magnetic head meeting a magnetic tape, Ni-W alloy, in which not less than one of nonmagnetic materials SiC, TiC, TaC, WC, ZrC, B4C, Cr3C2, Al2O3 and Cr2O3 as hard as or harder than a magnetic material used for the magnetic tape is dispersed, is formed by electroplating. The plating layer, an alloy of 20-38% Ni and W for the remainder, should approximatly be 100-150mu. The mean size of particles to be dispersed should be 0.3-5mu and the Ni-W alloy in which the particles are dispersed to 5-20% in area rate, is formed by plating on a core material preliminarily plated with copper, silver, gold or platinum group metal. Thus, a head of good resistance to wear and superior durability can be obtained which never damages a magnetic tape.
