Abstract

PURPOSE:To electromagnetically agitate molten metal effectively and economically without causing white band, by disposing permanent magnets around a cast piece so that magnetic field may be generated in one direction of cross section of the cast piece, and rotating them in the peripheral direction. CONSTITUTION:This electromagnetic agitating apparatus is disposed on the outer circumference of a round cast piece 1 which is located in the center. That is, a pair of bow-shaped permanent magnets 2, 2 are disposed across the cast piece 1, and a ring inscribing on the cast piece 1 is formed with the magnets 2 and a spacer 3 made of nonmagnetic material, and a yoke 4 is affixed to the outer circumstance. A gear 7 is provided on the outer circumference of the yoke 4, and it is engaged with a gear 8 on a frame 6 being driven by a motor 9, so that the permanent magnets 2 arranged in ring form may be rotated. The entire frame 6 is housed in a sealed container 11 made of nonmagnetic material which can be water-cooled because the outer surface thereof is used as water passage 10, so that the magnets 2 and motor 9 may be protected from high heat of the cast piece. By the rotary magnetic field created by rotation of the magnets 2, the molten metal may be effectively agitated.
