Abstract
PURPOSE: To raise the selectivity and the durability of activity of a catalyst for manufacturing alkylene glycol ethers, by a method in which one or more metal compounds of iron-family metals and alkaline earth metals are supported on a porous silica-alumina support and then baked.
CONSTITUTION: One or more metal compounds selected from iron-family metals and alkaline earth metals are supported on a porous silica-alumina support in a proportion of 0.5W25wt% (in terms of metal element used). Then, the porous silica-alumina support so treated is baked in a temperature range of 600W1,100°C to convert said metal compounds supported into their metals, oxides, or both forms. The catalyst thus obtained enables the effective fomation of alkylene glycol monoether by the reaction of a 1W4C alcohol and a 2W4C alkylene oxide in a liquid phase.
