Abstract
PURPOSE: To increase the S recovering rate, prevent a catalyst bed from being clogged, and enhance the purity of recovered S by combining a first reactor provided with a moving bed of carbonaceous particles and a second reactor provided with a moving bed of catalyst particles to treat SO2-contg. gas in two stages.
CONSTITUTION: SO2-contg. gas 1 is mixed with air 2 and steam 3 and introduced into a lower portion of the first reactor 4 provided with a moving bed of coal or coke particles of 700W900°C. In reactor 4 gas 1 countercurrently contacts to the bed to reduce SO2 to vaporous S. Outflow gas 5 contg. this S, unreacted SO2 and by-products such as H2S, COS and CS2 is introduced into a lower portion of the second reactor 6 and countercurrently contacted to a catalyst moving bed of granular bauxite supporting CaO, MgO or the like or iron ore. Gas 7 of a high S concn. enters condenser 8, where liq. S 9 is separated from uncondensed gas 10. On the other hand, the catalyst sulfurized with H2S is sieved 11, introduced into the top of moving bed type regenerator 13, and regenerated with regenerating gas from combustion furnace 14. The regenerated catalyst is sieved 15 and returned to reactor 6 through pipe 16.
