Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the title compound, a raw material of polyurethane, by the reaction of an aromatic nitro compound with an organic compound having a hydroxyl group, and CO, in the presence of specific catalysts, e.g. a Pt-group metal, a V compound and a quaternary ammonium hydroxide.
CONSTITUTION: An aromatic carbamic acid ester is obtained by the reaction of an aromatic nitro compound (e.g. nitrobenzene, o-nitrotoluene, etc.) with an organic compound having a hydroxyl group (e.g. methanol) and CO, in the presence of three catalysts comprising (A) a Pt-group metal (e.g. Pd, Ru, etc.) or its compound (e.g. halide, cyanide, etc.), (B) a V or Fe compound containing halogen [e.g. VX3 (X is halogen), Fe(I)X (X is halogen), etc.] and C) a quaternary ammonium hydroxide (e.g. 1-ethylpyridinium hydroxide).
EFFECT: The catalysts are not corrosive to the reaction vessel.
