Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide fluorescent compsn. which luminesces in red with high luminance by the excitation of low-speed electron beams, by a method wherein a specified amount of indium sulfide particle is deposited on the surface of a fluorescent substance composed of yttrium oxysulfide activated with europium.
CONSTITUTION: A fluorescent substance composed of yttrium oxysulfide activated with europium is suspended in an aq. soln. contg. indium sulfide in such a proportion as to give a weight ratio of the indium sulfide to the fluorescent substance in the resulting product of 9:1W1:9. The pH of the suspension is adjusted to 1.5W3.0. Gaseous H2S is passed through the suspension with stirring to precipitate substantially all of indium on the fluorescent substance particle. Excess chloride is removed from the precipitate by washing and drying steps. The precipitate is clcined in a sulfururous atmosphere at 500°C for 1hr to deposit indium sulfide particle on the surface of the fluorescent substance composed of yttrium oxysulfide activated with europium.
