Abstract

PURPOSE: To simplify and facilitate the sinking of caisson and reduce the cost for works by properly selecting the unit weight of concrete used for constructing each lot.
CONSTITUTION: At each stage of sinking of a caisson, the force of resistance against sinking to be expected for the next and the subsequent stages is calculated and then the necessary sinking load is computed, while the unit weight of the required reinforced concrete being computed as well. The body of the caisson is constructed with the concrete having the unit weight thus computed and the caisson is sunk by placing a lot thus produced on the lot of the preceding stage. In this way, it becomes unnecessary to add load such as an ingot or a sheet pile on every lot for accelerating the sinking as before, and also the works for improving the ground to prevent excessive sinking becomes unrequired.
