Abstract
PURPOSE: To safely secure a vessel coming alongside or leaving a pier and prevent the damage of the ship's side by forming the captioned device a part thereof touches the hull, a spherical joint turning the touching part vertically and horizontally, a fending part absorbing the impact load on the part touching the hull, and a covering board part protecting the above three parts.
CONSTITUTION: At a part A touching the hull, the fender material 20 of a fender base body 16 touches the hull 12, which causes elastic deformation to the multilayer fender material 20 composed of rubber and metal plates, thereby an initial impact load being absorbed. When the deformation of the fender material 20 reaches the state of saturation, the impact load thereof is transmitted from the fender base body 16 to a fending part C through a spherical joint B, where the impact load is absorbed. That is, the impact load is transmitted from the part A to a ball stud 28 and then acts on a piston rod 46 through the intermediary of a rod 30, and a piston plate 48 moves to the right so as to compress a viscous fluid 54 within a box 50. By this a resisting force occurs at the orifice 56 of the piston plate 48 due to the resistance produced by the fluid 54 in flux, thus a fending function is performed.
