Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a glass fiber with improved strength for optical transmission by adjusting the water content of an organopolysiloxane composition used as a material for covering a glass fiber for optical transmission to a specified value before curing.
CONSTITUTION: The water content of a curable organopolysiloxane composition used as a material for covering a glass fiber for optical transmission is controlled to 100, preferably 50ppm or less before curing. This control is performed by bubbling the composition of liq. state with dry gas to expel water, and more desirably vacuum defoaming and conveying are carried out in an atmosphere isolated from the air with dry gas. A cover is then formed using a coating means with dry gas sealed therein.
