Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance anti-pitting property to seawater by a method wherein high chromium ferrite stainless steel is reduced in C and N contents and is added with Mo, Co, and other elements.
CONSTITUTION: The object ferrite stainless steel contains C<0.10%, N<0.10%, Si<2%, Mn<2%, Cr: 20W35%, Mo<6%, Co<6%, and one or more of Ti, Nb and Ta in the range of 5×(C+N)W1.5%. The steel may further contain single or compounded elements of Ni<6% or each less than 1% of Zr, V, W, and less than 1% of one or more of Al, Ca, Mg, Ce, La. The amount of C and N is small and further is prevented by Ti, Nb and Ta from precipitating on crystal grain boundaries. Thus, anti-pitting property to seawater is enhanced. Other added elements improve toughness and hot working property.
