Abstract
PURPOSE:To eliminate the restriction on the relative positions of connection to the outside and achieve versatility by so constituting the modulator that the connectors for optical fiber inputting and outputting are connected by way of a piezoelectric material and reflecting plates. CONSTITUTION:Incident light 00 enters from a connector 10 for optical fiber, is totally reflected by a reflecting plate 21 and enters the ultrasonic piezoelectric material 31 provided with crossing finger electrodes 41 for generating SSBW waves and an electric driving circuit 61 at the Brag angle. The diffracted light 01 thereof is totally reflected by a reflecting plate 22 and enters a connector 11 for outputting. Hence, the connection to the outside is accomplished by way of the connector 11 by an optical fiber or the like and therefore there are no more restrictions on their relative positions and the versatility of the device may be achieved. In addition, the space that the optical system of the device occupies may be made smaller. It is also possible to provide the function of setting the output beam diameter by placing condenser lenses 171, 172 between the connectors 110, 111 for light and reflecting plates 121, 122.
