Abstract
PURPOSE: To make the cable small, light and easy to connect by arraying and burying plural optical fibers in the same direction in the inside circumferential edge part of the plastic long-length member which is reinforced by the continuous filament group bundled in one direction and extending in the lengthwise direction.
CONSTITUTION: The optical fibers 1 provided with the continuous filament groups 12 comprising impregnating thermosetting resins such as unsaturated polyester in glass fibers, and, if necessary, protection layers 4 of silicone resins or thermoplastic resins, are drawn in a heating die 8 by way of a guide jig 10. While they are being run, they are integrally cured and, further, they are led into a hardening furnace 13, if necessary. The optical fiber cable 11 is taken out by a traction device 9. If necessary, a soft or semi-rigid sheath 3 such as of polyethylene is provided or thin nonwoven fabrics or woven fabrics are coiled into the material composed of reinforcing base material 12 and optical fibers 1 and are integrally cured with the thermosetting resins impregnated, in order to improve impact resistance and corrosion resistance. In this way, the taking out of the optical fibers 1 at the connecting may be made easy and the strength increased.
