Abstract
PURPOSE:To form uniform nitride layer on the portion of complicated shape as well made by machining of Ni Cr steel of high Ni content, by blasting the surface of the Cr,Ni-contg. steel so as to condition the surface, then by nitriding the surface. CONSTITUTION:The surface of Cr,Ni-contg. steel, for example, contg. not less than 12% by wt. Ni, is blasted, i.e., small grit or small particles of abrasive are projected together with compressed air or by mechanical centrifugal force. As the abrasive particles are used rigid particles of alumina, silica sand, having hardness higher than that of the surface to be nitrided, e.g., abrasive particles made of alumina not larger than 320 mesh. If necessary, the blasted surface of Cr,Ni-contg. steel, which is to be nitrided, is degreased and washed with org. solvent or alkaline soln., then nitrided by conventional procedure.
